Yeast was isolated from the soil of northern region of India Kashmir valley (Jammu and Kashmir India). Yeast strain isolated from soil was truly psychrophilic in nature and was able to grow up to 20OC above which it couldn’t grow normally. The isolate was identified at molecular level and strain was identified as Cystofellobasidium capitatum SPY11. The sequenced yeast strain was submitted to NCBI gene bank. Psychrophilic yeasts are the potential source of cold-active enzymes and do have biotechnological applications.
